It can act as an extra seat, side table, plant pedestal, night stand, and footstool to help when reaching for things on the top shelf. For this design to be successful, it needed to be affordable for customers that wish to purchase multiple stools. This was done by limiting the product’s complexity and utilizing a clever flat pack design. Only one proprietary bumper screw is needed to fix a leg to the bottom of the seat panel, thanks to the two location pins on each leg. This minimizes the amount of hardware needed, while also retaining the simplicity of the overall design. These bumper screws also act as a dampener when they are stacked for storage. Available in a variety of finishes, these pieces can serve as eye-catching table or shelf setpieces when not in use. Engineered from anodized aluminum (Neal Feay), hand-blown glass (KEEP Brooklyn), and natural burl wood veneers (Eurogroup Belcaire), the Other_Worldly collection elevates the herb smoking experience to new heights. I collaborated with Flora Nero’s creative director, Marc Thorpe, for this collection, first developing the form language with pen and paper. I then created models of the entire collection in SolidWorks to be sent to Neal Feay for machining, texturing, and anodizing. Each operating tab has an actuation portion and an engagement portion. The engagement portion is moveable between engagement and disengagement positions. When the lid is in the closed positioned, the engagement portion engages the other of the lid and the base in the engagement position and disengages from the other of the lid and the base in the disengagement position. The actuation portion of the operating tab is resiliently deflectable radially outward relative to the one of the lid and the base to move the engagement portion to the disengagement position whereupon release of the actuation portion, the engagement portion returns to the engagement position.” I was in charge of all aspects of the design of this child-safe can topper project. I worked closely with an engineering partner to create a proprietary one-piece injection-molded packaging product to be used in the alcohol and cannabis markets.
