Squiggle Neck Brace
Our studio received an email from a mother raising a child with cerebral palsy. She found her son being prescribed a cumbersome neck brace meant for patients suffering from car accidents, commonly referred to as a cervical collar. When custom orthotics are made for a patient, there’s a time consuming process to create a plaster mold, then 4-6 weeks for the orthotic to be made and shipped to the customer. The plastering process can be quite traumatizing for younger patients.
The goal of this project was to create a comfortable neck support device that nearly disappears while using 3D-scanning technologies to create a custom model for the individual in a fraction of the time.
I headed the project from inception to final concept.
